This one was a real close call. The renters seemed like nice people. They flew into DIA and they had two little kids and two carseats flying into DIA. The bottom line is what did I make from Relay Rides. Take home is a little over a hundred bucks and I’m without a car for potentially 5 days. What this means for my practical life is that Hope and I can’t go to McDonald’s for breakfast five days in row, at least potentially. One thing I didn’t notice was that this was the last of my super cheap fares. I rented the car out for $20 a day. That price was way to low, but I wanted to get the success stories and reviews out there. The Azera has already taken 8 trips and the Acura a total of four.
The fare on this now would be $20 gross higher and I would of got to keep an extra $15. That’s nothing to sneeze at, it’s almost 15% more profit. It was also a bad deal that I wasn’t able to get a ride from these people in either direction. Normally I like to have the renter take me back home after picking them up at Denver International Airport (DIA). I also like them to pick me up when they go back out to the airport. This was an impossibility because they had two adults, two kids with two carseats and luggage for everybody. The Azera can hold this comfortably. When you add me as a full sized adult and a baby with a carseat no freaking way. The times worked out so Rebecca and Hope got dragged in to this debacle. This involves her time and mileage on the other vehicle.
Well this trip was about the most marginal one ever. The people were nice. Rebecca and I learned that airlines don’t count carseats as checked luggage so that was a plus. If this trip happened again it would be another fifteen bucks. Time to raise that delivery fee as well. Ended up analyzing the delivery fee as well. This one worked out horribly. Even though it was great and smooth for the customer and myself both ways. It really isn’t worth it so I raised it to $70. Hey that is partly why the car is so cheap. It is by far the nicest and cheapest car you can rent in Denver. The new fees would be $170 for the customer. For a full size sedan with the mileage restrictions that are much better than a rental car.
Once you figure in renting at the airport with the high taxes and fees Relay Rides does provide a far superior value.
